DAY 1: Arrive in Dar es Salaam
Meet at the airport and transfer to a Hotel (BB) in the City Centre, Dar es
Salaam. Acclimatize and Safari briefing.
DAY 2: Fly Dar to Ruaha
Early morning transfer to Dar es Salaam Airport for your two-and-a-half hour
Safari flight to Ruaha National Park. You will be met at Ruaha Airstrip and
transfer to the camp for check in and lunch followed by afternoon game drive
in camp’s open jeep. Ruaha, East Africa’s largest Park has the most dramatic
landscapes and abundance of wildlife. The dry (brown) season offers
spectacular game viewing with stalking commotions occurring alongside dry
river beds. The wet (green) seasons transforms the park into an amazing
paradise charmed with prolific resident and migrant birdlife with variety of
colourful flora and fauna.
Day 3: Ruaha Nation Park
Today you will enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in Ruaha National
Park which is dubbed the “Undiscovered gem of Tanzania’s best kept secret”.
Situated far off the beaten track, away from crazy camera clicking crowds this
rough tract of wilderness pulsates the real energy of an Africa long-forgotten.
Day 4: Ruaha Nation Park
Your last day in Ruaha today will be spent enjoying morning and afternoon
game drives. This Park is an ecological convergence for Northern and
Southern species of mammal and is also one of the few areas where Greater
and Lesser Kudu can be seen; Home to Tanzania’s largest elephant
population; a large collection of herbivore and carnivore such as lion, leopard,
cheetah, spotted and tripped hyena, wild dog and many more. Game drives
are unique at any season; the Park caters for the safari connoisseur and
DAY 5: Monday – Fly Ruaha – Katavi National Park
Important to Note: Shared Chartered Flights to and from Katavi and Mahale
operate on Mondays and Thursdays only
A very early morning transfer to Airstrip for your 07:00am shared chartered
flight to Katavi. Though the best is the dry season, Katavi is pretty good in the
green season too especially for birders. You will take an early evening game
viewing as you explore this authentic and remote western wilderness and
witness the dramas unfold before you.
DAY 6 – Tuesday: in Katavi National Park
Today we will explore the park whose main geographical features are the
wetland grass plains to the north and the palm-fringed Lake Chada to the
south-east. During the rainy season, these lush, marshy lakes are a haven for
myriad water birds, as they support Tanzania’s densest concentrations of
hippo and crocodile. Katavi is the third largest park in Tanzania – Isolated,
untrammelled and seldom visited; it is a true wilderness, providing the few
visitors who make it there with a thrilling taste of Africa as it must have been
a century ago.
DAY 7: Wednesday – In Katavi National Park
Depart for morning Walking Safari (if booked within package) alternatively
morning and afternoon game drives. During the dry season when the
floodwater retreats, the Katuma River remains the only source of drinking for
the animals, and offer spectacular game concentrations that defy belief. We
expect to see a horde of elephants, several herds of buffalo and abundance
of giraffe, zebra, impala and reedbuck that congregate on the area; providing
an easy pick for the numerous lion prides and spotted hyena clans whose
territories converge on the floodplains.
DAYS 8 – Thursday: Fly: Katavi to Dar es Salaam
This morning you will be transferred to Iku Airstrip in Katavi for your shared
charter flight back to Dar es Salaam expected to arrive around 16:35; in time
for your evening outbound connections or check in at a hotel in the City.
